So the election is over, and many feel we dodged a bullet politically, and we’re back to business as usual... Except, there’s nothing usual about it.
General business confidence is low and weakening, and in response, last week the Reserve Bank of Australia cut the official cash rate for the second month in a row.
Now at an all-time record low of 1%, will it be enough to pump up the tyres of a stalling economy? And if not, how long before Australia hits 0% interest rates? And when that happens, where will the rest of the world be?
More than 3 million Australians, many of which are retirees, rely heavily on back interest to live, but are now getting next to nothing. They’re now eating into their savings just to get by...
I predict more and more grandparents working at the drive-thru counter of a fast food outlet near you soon... And suddenly that $20 note Gran puts in your birthday card each year is looking, well... good.
Sadly, that’s what life looks like in the ‘old’ economy.
Of course, if you’ve listened to me over the years, none of this is new to you and you’d have your financial house in order. You’d be playing strong defence and selective, ‘low-risk, high-return’ offence.
Paradoxically, in the ‘new’ economy, we also have more wealth being generated faster, than at any other time in history...
